Pugwash four views and pieces | Major

Today I created the illustrator files for Pugwash as well as pieces files which will then be modelled and textured into being the model and rig for his character. I’m very happy with how these came out and I am looking forward to building him tomorrow.

Premise character design process

Image
After visiting the John Ryan exhibition and workshop, I worked on elements I gained from the workshop and have been drawing multiples of characters from different backgrounds to work out my style. The two initial characters I focused on were Ellie (little me) and Mr De Courcey.

@Alan Proposed analogue sculpting reference

Image
After reading week, we are working on analogue sculpting with the view to developing our digital 3D modelling process digitally by gaining experience of its analogue counterpart. Before we begin this however, we have to select a character to model within this project. Below were my initial, and then final intended characters for modelling. Pting - Doctor Who Jinx - League of Legends Poison Ivy - DC universe Racnoss - Doctor Who Weeping angel - Doctor Who  Judoon - Doctor Who  These we my initial ideas of what I could have potentially sculpted, however the character I have decided upon is Madame Vastra, a Silurian from Doctor Who. I feel that this will be a useful character to model as she has overall human features, with additional characteristics based on the reptile side of the species.

Character Design Exam Work

Image
For our Character Design exam, we were given an existing cartoon or character, and asked to create a new character to become part of the regular cast. We were asked to design the character, their environment, and have an element that could become a toy. The show I was given was Wild Kratts. I started by trying to design my character, who I had decided was the mad professor who creates all the tech that allows the characters to transform. He started off by looking a bit too mad professor for this show. Although I really liked this design, it didn't really fit in with the pre-existing character design of the show, so I had to rethink the design logic a bit.  I felt that these designs fitted in much better with the aesthetic of the show. I decided that in terms of the toys, both the t-shirt/lab coat combo and the eye piece could be used as toys. The idea behind the eyepiece was that it would act as a Heads Up Display. As the field team took on the ch...

Character design progress

I am currently doing final touches and compositing of my design bible. Along the way I have digitised some of my previous designs in order to refine them and show design progress.

Character design updates

Image
Over the last week or so I have been working on getting complete designs for my characters, as well as establishing spacing and layout for the environments.  I began by designing what the radioactive creature would look like inside the mannequin head, and below are my results. After some consideration, as well as talking to peers, I decided that number 47 would be the final design for my creature. I then decided I needed to draw the creature outside of the mannequin head.  The drawings were the beginning of me trying to establish the final body shapes and overall appearance of my two characters. The construction of the cat is slightly wrong as the elbow on the front legs is in the wrong place and the shoulders are not positioned correctly on the front view. I am going to fix it in the final character design pieces. I then began trying to figure out how the overall environment shots might look, in preparation for beginning to create lay...
