Collaboration reflective statement

Image
Collaboration has been a massively positive experience for me. I discovered a lot about myself, working as a studio, the software and the production pipeline. A big difference for me, with this project, was learning how to deal with something that really held me back last year. This was my mind block. When I get stressed or frustrated I tend to get more and more clumsy in my work. Last year this really caused me issues, throughout this project, I have discovered how to combat this through meditation and mindfulness colouring. I also got a lot better at organising my work to make it clear, open and easy to use. I was careful to give all groups and elements names and use naming conventions. This was specifically important as we would be sharing scene files and models. I have also learnt just how important Dope sheets and reference footage are. These make the difference between a snippy, entertaining, well timed animation, and a mediocre one. Reference footage ensures smo

Mime opening

Image
This is the mime opening scene. I'm quite happy with his expressions. Here is the final version.

Mime's act final

This is all the shots edited together to give the final scene of the mime's act.

Mime's act with facials

Image
Here is the mime's act with facial expressions. This is a render from distance but the final section will have multiple shots. This playblast was to see how the expressions work. The feet are doing odd things and I think some of it is down to the broken rig, but you shouldn't see it at all.

Mime's act without facial animation

Image
This is a rough playblast of the mime's act. It has no facial animation at the moment, and there are varying shots to be put in throughout, however this is the overall animation. There are a couple of bits that need fixing in the animation and I will do this tomorrow. The camera will also not be in this position. I have had a large number of issues with Maya glitches this evening, but I'm glad I've got there now.

@Alan any ideas????

Image
Hi Alan. I was doing some clean up on my animation this evening when this happened. All I did before was move one key frame and then it went to this? I've gone back to a previous save file to carry on, but was wondering if you knew what the cause was for the whole scene to go like this. If its something I've done, I'd like to not do it again :) Thanks Nelly This subsequently happened tonight although I'm guessing this is because of the broken rig?

Finished Charlie Chaplin animation

Image
This animation was a bit of a challenge as we were using very old footage of Charlie Chaplin. The way he moves is very interesting and unusual. It was a challenge that I quite enjoyed.

Stage orthographs and modelling

Image
The stage was a bit complicated to make and had many different elements to it, so orthographs were very useful for modelling this part.  Stage front orthograph  Stage side orthograph  Stage top orthograph  Stairs front orthograph  Stairs side orthograph Stairs top orthograph Stage Wireframe Stage Untextured Stage textured  Stage lit Interior shot rendered interior shot  Steps wireframe  Steps untextured Steps textured

Mime orthographs and modelling

The only thing I really had to orthograph for the mime was his beret. His clothes and everything were textured directly onto moom, and he has no other accessories.  The Beret front orthograph  The Beret side orthograph The Beret top orthograph Beret wireframe  Beret untextured Beret textured Mime wireframe Mime untextured Mime textured

Mime opening sequence

Image
This is the opening for our collaboration film. Overall I am quite happy how this came out. Its not perfect, and this is something I'd like to revisit if I have time before the deadline. The ripping in half of the poster was a challenge, but I'm fairly happy with how it came out. I feel that I have captured the expressions well. A good introduction to our cheeky Mime.

Taming the Hydra - Perspectives

Image
Today's final lecture was on the overall idea of Postmodernism as a hydra, and how its many facets can be approached. Research Federic Jameson - The Cultural Turn (1998) Sokal Hoax Dick Hebdige - Hiding in the light (1988) Federic Jameson: "The concept of postmodernism is not widely accepted or even understood." Postmodernism is a disputed term: Origins - when did it begin? Demolition of Pruitt-Igoe (1972) Fountain - Marcel Duchamp (1917) Tristram Shandy - Laurence Stern (1759) Partially connected to rise of commercialism etc "The postmodern is deliberately exclusive as a concept, avoiding as much as possible the modernist desire to clasify and thereby delimit, bound and confine." Postmodernism is exhausted - been taught for a long time in art  and humanities - not exhausted as still in media Postmodernism is nothing without modernism Modernism  - affirms power of humans, create, improve and reshape environment, scientific knowl

Character design updates

Image
Over the last week or so I have been working on getting complete designs for my characters, as well as establishing spacing and layout for the environments.  I began by designing what the radioactive creature would look like inside the mannequin head, and below are my results. After some consideration, as well as talking to peers, I decided that number 47 would be the final design for my creature. I then decided I needed to draw the creature outside of the mannequin head.  The drawings were the beginning of me trying to establish the final body shapes and overall appearance of my two characters. The construction of the cat is slightly wrong as the elbow on the front legs is in the wrong place and the shoulders are not positioned correctly on the front view. I am going to fix it in the final character design pieces. I then began trying to figure out how the overall environment shots might look, in preparation for beginning to create layouts. I d
