Summer project 2017 - Drawings 1-22

This week we received the summer project that is to be completed before beginning our first year of the CAA course in a few weeks time. The first stage of this process is the beginning of idea generation. We were given a number of objects, from which we have to create 101 different concepts (including life forms, machines and structures) and then develop 3 of these further.

These are the items that we were given to develop the concepts from. They are ordinary objects, but the trick is to create the extraordinary or unusual concepts from these.

The following are the concepts that I have created in the last few days:

  1. Hey Eleanor :) Getting stuck in - great! Some techniques to think about in terms of moving your objects forward in unexpected ways: tracing their shapes and then layering them up - perhaps rotating one duplicate shape a little to the left and then another a little further to the left and so on, until you're moving towards some very different compositions - then you look at those compositions and see what you can see! Onwards! :)

  2. Hi Eleanor, I'm a third year on your course, these look great! try and crop out some of the unwanted background in your images so the focus is just on your drawings, these designs are full of character!

  3. Hi Eleanor welcome to CAA family :) lots of nice fun designs here and some nice complimentary colours going on. Taking pictures of your designs can be tricky sometimes because the white of the page can sometimes oversaturate parts of your designs, a trick is to bring them into photoshop and mess with the levels a tad to pop the colours out or dial the white of the page down a tad. When you come to UCA I would make use of the scanners scattered around the college and scan your designs to a USB stick then bring them into photoshop and crop and edit them if needs be, it really helps present your designs in a professional way. Keep up the good work :)

  4. Hi Eleanor - welcome!! Following on from what Phil has suggested, it's often helpful to work with silhouettes of the object, as it allows you to focus on the outline and not be distracted by the details. Good start! :)
